the project
EvoDevoSigNet is a project to promote research in evolution of developmental processes and signaling mechanisms in plants, as a way to understand how this evolution generates morphological innovations and diversity of responses, and how it directs the adaptation to different environments and biotic interactions. Our goal is to create a working group formed by 14 teams with different abilities and experts in methodologies, experimental systems and different theoretical and conceptual frameworks, which interact synergistically in collaborative and ambitious projects to significantly advance the research in the field and to acquire a relevant positioning at the international level. Likewise, we intend to combine the intrinsic basic interest of understading how evolution has modeled the vegetal world as we know it, with the biotechnological and translational perspective that derives from the understanding of the general and the particular in development processes, obtained through comparative studies in diverse taxonomic groups. Finally, EvoDevoSigNet, and taking advantage of the appeal of the topics that we want to develop, has a vocation to disseminate plant research and its evolutionary aspects both to the scientific community and to nonacademic audiences, for which we have proposed specifically designed activities. EvoDevoSigNet has, therefore, ambitious and clearlydefined scientific, strategic and dissemination objectives focused on an emergent but yet not fully implemented field of research, and it is to be expected that it will be able to generate significant impacts for research in Spain.
